Getting a mortgage can be a challenge, even in the best of times, with piles of required documentation, repeated verifications of things like employment and assets, and very strict rules about how much debt you can carry.
Loan officers are pulling back on lending, requiring higher credit scores from borrowers and raising interest rates they charge for all kinds of loans, a survey showed. The survey shed light on how much high interest rates are making life harder for borrowers and lenders, who experienced decreased demand for credit.
How hard is it to get a $30,000 personal loan? This depends on your financial situation. For those with a good credit score — around 670 and up — a $30,000 personal loan may be pretty easy to get. But those new to credit or with a bad score may find it challenging.
Government-backed loan options, such as FHA, USDA and VA loans, are typically the easiest type of mortgage to get because they may have lower down payment and credit score requirements compared to conventional mortgage loans.
The upshot is that if you're over the age of 62, you're almost 30% more likely to get rejected for a standard mortgage.
High debt-to-income (DTI)
Before approving you for a mortgage, lenders review your monthly income in relation to your monthly debt, or your debt-to-income (DTI). A good rule of thumb: your mortgage payment should not be more than 28% of your monthly gross income. Similarly, your DTI should not be more than 36%.
Several factors could keep you from getting a mortgage, including a low credit score or income, high debts, a spotty employment history and an insufficient down payment.
Can you get a mortgage for $50,000?
Minimum mortgage amount you can borrow
Mortgage lenders have different minimum mortgage amounts. You'll probably have an easier time finding a small mortgage if you want to borrow at least $50,000.
Mortgage lenders have become much stricter with their requirements, which makes it more difficult and confusing for buyers to qualify. In the past, borrowers could get approved with lower credit scores, but now they require at least a 700 credit score and a down payment of about 20%.
Most major mortgage lenders won't offer loans under the $50,000 mark. Lenders are used to people asking for the maximum amount they can borrow (the average maximum mortgage loan amount is $ 300,000), so some might not even have an official minimum threshold.
In fact, the UK places sixth on a list of 10 countries where it's most difficult to get on the property ladder. The only countries where it's even harder to become a homeowner are Switzerland, China, Japan, France and Kenya.

Higher interest rates are the culprit
As the Fed hikes its Federal Funds Rate, the rate that banks charge one another to borrow and lend their excess reserves, “money costs more,” McBride said.

The monthly payment on a $30,000 loan ranges from $410 to $3,014, depending on the APR and how long the loan lasts. For example, if you take out a $30,000 loan for one year with an APR of 36%, your monthly payment will be $3,014.
It will take 41 months to pay off $30,000 with payments of $1,000 per month, assuming the average credit card APR of around 18%. The time it takes to repay a balance depends on how often you make payments, how big your payments are and what the interest rate charged by the lender is.
1. Conventional loans. A conventional loan is any mortgage that's not backed by the federal government. Conventional loans have higher minimum credit score requirements than other loan types — typically 620 — and are harder to qualify for than government-backed mortgages.

Currently, Bank of India offers the lowest home loan interest rate starting from 8.30% p.a. Bank of Maharashtra, LIC Housing Finance and Union Bank of India offer rate of interest on home loans starting from 8.35% p.a.
You'll typically need a credit score of 620 or better to qualify. A 3% minimum down payment is available to first-time home buyers. A credit score and down payment of more than the minimum can earn you easier conventional loan approval and a lower interest rate.
If you can demonstrate an ability to repay the loan before you're 75 years old, they will consider your application no matter your age! For example, if you needed to borrow $300,000 and were 50 years old, the standard 30-year mortgage term could be reduced to 25 years and your loan would be approved.
Age doesn't matter. Counterintuitive as it may sound, your loan application for a mortgage to be repaid over 30 years looks the same to lenders whether you are 90 years old or 40.
The mortgage application process is typically very similar, regardless of your age. The main difference is that as you reach or approach retirement age, mortgage lenders will want to see pension forecasts to assess your ability to repay your mortgage once your regular income stops.
